Tasting of Guanajuato cheese tonight

For all those readers who are far, far away from Guanajuato, take this as one more indication of the huge ferment in local food businesses of high quality in this part of the world.

For those in Guanajuato, please pass the message along (I only received it yesterday).

Friday 26th November en el Rincon del Beso, right hand side going up Alhondiga more or less opposite Hotel Abadia. 7-9pm

Quesos Oly, an operation in Apaseo el Grande in the eastern part of the state, now makes a variety of cheeses from the thousand (1) goats they have in milk, all inspected for disease..  Very high quality operation with the goats carefully fed to give milk of equal quality year round. They just won a national prize in Mexico and are completing the paperwork to export to the United States.

Among the cheeses (add -style after all the names) are a couple of boursins, panela, feta, Port Salud, two manchegos, one with a red wine wash.  All are good, the red wine wash one is to my mind really addictive. All at prices that are less than grocery store cheeses.

Judith Velasco (the vet) whose husband Pedro’s goats contribute some of the milk, is organizing the event.  I can’t make it but said I would pass the word around.  If you could forward this to anyone who might be interested I’d be most grateful.

You can also call Judith to order 732 0251  or direct from Quesos Oly 413 158 5805.
