Afterword: Mole Festival de Guanajuato

What a lot a few can do. Jesús and LuzMa, whom I am lucky to have as neighbors, dreamed the whole Mole Festival up and worked to make it happen, as part of their campaign to put Guanajuato on the culinary map. I’d mentioned it earlier on my blog and been to the reception the preceding night but missed the event itself because we were on our way to Mexico City.

Instead we have MexicoBob’s account.

Bob mentions the estudiantinas. Here’s a link. If you have the luck to come to Guanajuato, don’t miss going on a callejoneada (stroll through the alleys) with them. It’s a lot of fun. Even my totally cool 16-year old English visitors, both enmeshed in the rock scene, were singing along.

Meanwhile back to Jesús and Luz. They’ve entertained at their house-restaurant Mexican culinary stars such as Ricardo Muñoz and Ricardo Santibañez

(here with Luz and Marilyn Tausend)

as well as Americans who love and write about Mexican food, including Rick Bayless (with Luz and Jesús)

Marilyn Tausend (here with Luz and Jesús)

and Steve Sando (Rancho Gordo) who reports here.

Their house-restaurant will be open during the great arts festival of Guanajuato, the Cervantino. And they will keep it open thereafter. If you are in town or come through town, they’d certainly appreciate your visit.

(Calle de Arriba #6, Colonia San Javier.  The taxi drivers know the name of the restaurant and the address.  Or try from Guanajuato 732 7375 (from other parts of Mexico add 01 473 in front, from US 01152 473) or lasmercedes_banquetes@hotmail.com).
