Links for Mexico
This page is very much in progress. At the moment it is largely confined to food and to English speakers, two things I hope to change.
Culinary Travel
Ruth Alegria of Mexico Soul and Essence will arrange a personalized culinary and cultural tour of Mexico City and beyond.
Cristina Potter, who has a blog about a dreamy Mexico, will arrange personalized culinary tours specializing in the Michoacán and Jalisco.
Marilyn Tausend has been running culinary tours of Mexico for many years under the name Culinary Adventures. If you take one to the Central Highlands, you may find yourself listening to me on the cactus kitchen.
Another option is to look for the culinary tours of Mexico run by Nancy Zavlasky. I first met Nancy years ago when we both took a cooking class in San Miguel.
For eating in the main tourist areas, there is a pioneering restaurant guide to Mexico City by Nick Gilman. May it grow and prosper.
For Mexican cooking classes in San Miguel de Allende, I am a big fan of Maria Laura’s Traditional Mexican Cooking.
For Mexican markets
For an introduction to Mexican food, this blog, now finished, by a French resident is delightful.
Mexican Food
Roberto Santibañez, born and raised in Mexico, knows Mexican food inside out and besides is delightful and highly professional. He now has a consulting business.
Colonial Architecture
If you’re interested in exploring colonial Mexico, the web site of Espadana Press, and I would say their books too, is an indipensable starting point.
Poking about in Mexican History and Culture
My almost-neighbor, Bob Mrotek, has a well-informed blog that is a delight to anyone who enjoys exploring Mexican history and culture. He specialises in the region around Irapuato where he has lived for a decade.
Steve Sando, aka Rancho Gordo, is now blogging on Mexican popular music. I’ve been meaning to learn more about this for ages and look forward to following along.
