Hokusai in Rice

I’m probably the last person in the world to see Hokusai’s wave in waving rice (duh), since these kinds of stories fly round the web in a moment.  But if you are another laggard, click on this link which is one of the more informative one, or just google “Inakadate” or “rice field art in Japan.”  Quite amazing.

And to give a bit of historical perspective on rice in Japanese culture, here’s a classic from Princeton University Press:
